Breidagate Investigation

LEAGUE OF DEGENERATES

OFFICE OF THE COMMISSIONER

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

MARCH 12, 2023, OAKLAND, CA – The LOD has concluded its investigation of Anthony Perez (“Ant”) and his roster moves during weeks 13 and 14 of the 2023 LOD regular season (referred to as “Breidagate”).

Based on this investigation, the League has concluded that:

  • Ant deliberately threw his matches in weeks 13 and 14 to secure a higher draft pick
  • By throwing, Ant indirectly attempted to influence the outcome of matchups that carried playoff implications, creating an unfair advantage for Ryan and Wings at the expense of Erik and Nauch, respectively
  • During the first instance of throwing in week 13, Erik and Bryan both initiated disputes with the commissioner over these actions and the Commissioner attempted to directly address the matter with Ant ahead of their week 14 matchup
  • Despite the Commissioner’s efforts, Ant continued to make roster moves to attempt to throw his week 14 matchup
  • After the week’s games started and it became apparent that Ant still had a serious chance of winning his match up, he deliberately picked up and started second string players in his remaining roster spots, and with no true reason to do so from a competitive perspective
  • This lineup tinkering continued into Monday, at which time the Commissioner took emergency action to lock Ant’s roster and try to preserve the integrity of the match up
  • Shortly after Monday Night Football began, Nauch began a dispute with the Commissioner regarding Ant’s actions and the potential impact it had on playoff standings
  • With Ant’s roster already locked, the Commissioner decided to let the games play out and take whatever action is needed at the end of the week
  • Despite Ant’s efforts to throw, he was unsuccessful and ended up winning his week 14 matchup, preserving the integrity of the final standings
  • While no further action was needed regarding playoff standings, the League still finds Ant responsible for creating an unfair advantage for other Owners, which is an action covered under Article XIII.1 of the Official Rules
  • The Commissioner has maintained an open discussion with the League regarding the disputes presented to him by 3 different members of the League, which covers Article XII.2
  • Ant acted alone in this effort and therefore all parties are cleared of Collusion

The Commissioner, under the powers granted by Article XIII.3, has determined the following Resolution:

  • Ant’s roster will remain locked, meaning he cannot add players, drop players, or make trades, until the 2024 draft.
  • Ant will still be allowed to submit his keepers under the current League rules
  • Ant will forfeit his 4th round (2 picks) and 5th round (3 picks) draft, as well as forfeiting his 2nd and 3rd round if he chooses to not set Keepers for them. These will not be re-assigned to anyone else, but the Commissioner will have control over these picks until and during the draft.
  • Ant will be given the opportunity for a reduced punishment: if he posts a written or video apology to the League Chat before draft day, and this apology is accepted by Nauch, the Commissioner and 3 other Members, his 5th round picks will be reinstated and roster lock will be lifted for the week between keepers and draft day

This Resolution is announced to the League under Article XII.3.

  3. The Commissioner may act on a Dispute in whatever manner they deem to provide a fair resolution. The Commissioner must announce their intended actions to the League for their general approval.”
