Breidagate Conclusion

LEAGUE OF DEGENERATES

OFFICE OF THE COMMISSIONER

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

MARCH 20, 2023, OAKLAND, CA – The following is a joint statement by Commissioner Wings and Anthony “Top Dawg” Perez.

After the decision made by the Commissioner on Breidagate, Ant immediately appealed the decision on the following grounds:

  1. A team is allowed to start whomever it may concern as long as the player is an active player on an NFL ROSTER and has played or is giving an effort to play in upcoming games. Regardless of standings and or playoff matchups a team is not incentivized to consider roster moves, changes, and or decisions. This is fantasy football where any given player can win or lose matchups regardless of their projections.  (Outlined by Wandale Robinson) the league has no right to decide who and who isn't a player that can be started in a lineup in any given week.
  2. While the league has pointed out very loose interpretations of the rules nowhere in the league rules does it say the league has the opportunity to fine a team of draft pick compensation, roster movement, and or finances.
  3. The league was not affected in any way shape or form because of the actions of my team as I still lost both games and it all led up to points scored for opposing teams which is in no one's hands other than fate.
  4. If the league intends to fine teams and players for "tanking" there should be an explicit rule that states the limitations as to be open for the entire league and any third party to review. At this time, the league has not stated any rule against these decisions
  5. The league has clearly used this franchise  as a martyr to destroy tanking in this league and appease the owners claims against him. In doing so it hurt the teams image and likeness and in all honesty, his feelings

In response, the Commissioner stated his own thoughts on the matter:

  1. Ant’s argument ignores the precedent that a team should also be making a reasonable effort to start their strongest team possible and with the intent of winning. The actions of starting a backup QB who would not have played for an injury to the starter (Jameis Winston Week 13), starting second string players with significantly lower utilization while having capable and healthy first stringers (Matt Breida, L. Schoonmaker Week 14) are, while not explicitly banned, goes against common sense. While these views can be seen as subjective, it is something the Commissioner has confidence that most other LOD members feel the same
  2. The League rules cited in the Commissioner’s decision were created with the intention of being vague as its purpose was meant to cover incidents that may not explicitly be covered by existing rules. After Chuck’s attempt to pick up Josh Jacobs for free ahead of the 2020 keeper deadline, and citing the (lack of) rules in place as allowing him to do so despite the common sense being that it shouldn’t be allowed, it felt necessary to prepare for any future scandals.
  3. While correct that there was no overall impact on the League outcome. We reiterate the need to address this issue head-on to prevent similar incidents of attempted throwing in the future
  4. We’d like to clarify that the issue the Commissioner is addressing here is not “tanking,” but rather attempting to throw matches. The League intends to address this issue with our usual offseason rule changes. Because this specific incident happened during the 2023 season, however, it therefore falls under Article XIII’s interpretation mentioned in point 2.
  5. Sorry we hurt your feelings uwu

After negotiation between the two parties (and with no involvement whatsoever from the rogue group known as LODPA), they have agreed to settle the matter mutually and have come to the following resolution:

  1. Ant admits to wrongdoing in attempted match throwing, and accepts a penalty of one fourth round pick (4.3) and one sixth round pick (6.2)
  2. Ant will be allowed to make roster moves and trades, but cannot receive any 2024 1st-4th round picks or 6th round picks
  3. Both Ant and Wings acknowledge the need for rules governing match throwing and the Commissioner’s scope of allowed punishments, with both to be put to a vote this offseason
  4. Ant will provide a video statement to the League prior to the draft
  5. The LODPA will be recognized as a legitimate group if there are 5 league members who express their support

This closes the Breidagate matter once and for all and hopefully sets precedent for future conduct in the League.
