Degenerates, welcome back to another year of fantasy football. The greatest time of the year. A part of the year where you can say the most outlandish shit, ruin friendships for a few months and really take out your anger of the real world on your fantasy players or someone in the league you really want to stick it too. However, at the same time all of this brings us closer together. I am so excited for another season with you fellas and blessed that each and everyone of you are here because you are what makes this league special and I love all of yall (Even you Gio) and thank you all from the bottom of my heart for making this league special.
I will have a thing or two for yall here coming in the next couple of weeks. However, the website has been revamped and updates are still happening as we speak. I have added a league history section that will track everything that was posted from last season as well as have stats from last season of each and every team. I figured since this league has seen some changes over the years in players. I wanted to introduce an updated tracker on the website for all time performance between the 10 of us here. The one thing I am providing here is I am adding my own personal stats to show that Sleeper does not. I will be having overall head to head records against one another including PF. Including largest loss in history of the league and highest scores and with only putting the top 5 of each. That way we have an offical LOD archive that us 10 can have an talk shit on. Why all that is in the works there are updates to the site which you will see that are there now. Now I present to yall, our Commisioner East Oaklands very own Andrew Alas.
Hey degens! Special thanks to Chuckles for letting me guest spot on the website blog to help ring in our 8th season of the League of Degenerates! With the MLB All-star game past us and the F1 break coming soon, it’s time to put on the Commish hat to fill the sports void in everyone’s lives. I’ll get to all the juicy deets in a second, but first, I wanted to share some reflections on the state of the League as we get ready to embark on another fall of football.
Season seven welcomed Bryan as the newest entry into the LOD grid, and his presence was felt just as much off the (fantasy) field as on it, between a stellar third co-second place performance as well as consistent bantz. Him and second-year Ryan in fact looked like the heavy favorites for most of the year, but ultimately it was league OGs Chuck and Gio who came in from the low seeds to set up the worst case scenario, but with an albeit pretty hilarious outcome.
Season seven also saw a fair share of surprises, with season six champion Ant failing to make the playoffs even with the extra help of the inaugural play-in. The Rob hype train returned to the playoffs after a multi-season drought. The downfall of “fuck a draft” also came for Joe and Nauch, whose risky preseason gambits failed to pay off and left them at the bottom of the grid for their most recent campaigns.
Some things though, didn’t change one bit, with longtime washed rivals Wings “Fake Commish,” Naucheco Perez and Erik “Norwalk N” continuing their longtime mid triangle, but not letting it get in the way of prime shit talk and sexual tension.
On a more personal note, the past year has been a special one. I’m frankly shocked to think that a year ago I took the big boy step into married life (and launched my side projects as a DJ/Baker…) right before this season started. And man has so much changed. I admit I don’t keep in touch with a few of you as often as I need to, but I can imagine y’all feel the same as we enter the final couple years of being twentysomethings and really step into adulthood (stop laughing at us Ryan, I know we’re all still children).
That being said, as we grip with the harsh reality that even Gio gets up early now, I am glad to know that this league has served as a constant in the face of a lot of change. I’ll admit that over the offseason, I was seriously considering whether I wanted to continue with being Commish, or to step down and hope Bryan would actually take over to keep the League from going under (or worse, the return of Commissioner Chuck). But I now am looking at this next season with a renewed sense of desire to keep things exciting and give y’all a reason to keep giving a shit.
Arlight, enough of me spilling my guts to y’all (love you guys!), let’s talk bizness.
I’m firing the Sleeper app back up and re-opening the League starting Monday July 17th noon Pacific. From here, you’ll be able to start prepping for the draft and hopefully finessing your players for picks like last year’s Joe-nathan Taylor disasterclass.
I’m setting the draft for Sunday, August 13 5PM Pacific. As always, the draft will be remote and with a zoom for those of y’all that are available to join. If you got work or something that would mean you need to auto, reach out to me and we’ll see if we can work something out. With that draft date, the official deadline for keepers will be Sunday, August 6 at 5PM Pacific. Please set keepers in the Sleeper app.
As I mentioned before, I got some fresh sport and content ideas for the League, but I also would love to hear from you. Along with the usual rule change suggestion form, I am also including a quick survey to gauge your interest on a few things before putting anything to an official vote.
Keeping this open until Friday July 21 5PM Pacific, with an official poll of proposed rule changes to follow on Monday July 24 and voting to open Tuesday-Friday. If needed, a runoff poll will be posted on the 31st to finalize rule changes before keepers lock.
